‘ENHANCING DAIRY QUALITY FOR LOCAL & EXPORT MARKET’

The Dairy Quality Awards celebration is a national event in Uganda, it was first celebrated in 2013 by Dairy Development Authority (DDA).
Development Partners have been supporting the event (SNV, EADDP 1, aBi –Trust, Send a Cow, Heifer International, Packo, Agri-Profocus  among others.
The event is aimed at rewarding dairy stakeholders along the chain, who comply to dairy standards & regulations.
Over the past three years, participation in the event has been increasing gradually.
Winners in their respective categories have received various prizes; Complete milking and cooling equipment, milking machines, milk pumps, personal protective equipment and sanitation items.
It is believed that through enhancing quality Uganda can fully exploit its potential to improved dairy and its products on local and export market.
It was decided that the 2016 Dairy Quality award be a regional event in South-western Uganda
DDA and SNV-TIDE will take lead in organizing the event.
Stakeholder’s Category eligibility:
A. Dairy Farms:

  1. Small scale dairy farms (1-20 cows)
  2. Medium scale dairy farms (20-100 cows)
  3. Large scale dairy farms (above 100 cows)

B. Dairy farmers Cooperatives:

  1. Secondary dairy Cooperative societies
  2. Primary dairy Cooperative societies

C. Milk Collection Centers:

  1. Milk Collection Centers (MCCs)
  2. Milk Bulking Centres

D. Milk Processing plants:

  1. Large scale dairy processing plants (Installed >30,000L/day)
  2. Medium scale dairy processing plants (Installed 5,000 – 30,000L/day)
  3. Small scale processing plant(installed <5000L/day)
  4. Ice cream processors
  5. Small scale yoghurt processors
  6. Cheese processors

E. Dairy Exporting companies:

  1. Exporters of Milk and Milk Products

F. Female headed Enterprises.

Awards
Winners shall receive the following:
Each of the above categories shall have three winners:

  1.  Platinum,
  2. Gold and
  3.  Silver.

Each of the winners shall get an award (plaque), a certificate & assorted prizes.


Objectives
The objectives of the event is to:

    • -Honour dairy stakeholders from farm to fork (grass to glass) who have successfully complied to dairy standards and regulations.
    • -To provide a platform of advocacy to promote good quality & safe milk & milk products,
    • -To bring together all dairy stakeholders in the south-western Uganda
    • -To promote positive competition among dairy stakeholders,
    • -To encourage development partners to continue supporting the dairy industry
